Welcome to my website. Although the host is new, the blog is not--the first post went up in January 2008. I write about a variety of topics here including, but hardly limited to, baking, books, movies, historical topics, and politics. My reading buddy isn’t much of a reader. I actually think she’d rather I not bother with the the book except that it keeps me still.

Things started somewhat oblong before rounding into form.

One of the final few bakes of the semester, for a Reading Day social gathering for history majors who wanted a break in the middle of finals. One student declared she knew she was coming when the email said I was bringing baked goods.

If I’m going to bring something I’ve never made to my last class, I figure I should practice. Persian nan-e barberi, one sheet with sesame seeds, the other with za’atar.

Sometimes cupcakes are the answer. At least they were over the weekend when a school network outage meant that I couldn’t do a lot of other work.
